What Is Corporate Accounting?

In a phrase, corporate accounting is the exciting undertaking of an internal team of accountants at any large corporation. Their day-to-day jobs might include preparing tax filings, managing revenue, or performing projections, and all of these duties shift radically as the company changes and evolves with each passing day. Thankfully, if you'd like to learn more about what a job in corporate accounting might look like, our team may be able to help.

A Specialised Role For A Generalised Job
For a corporate accountant, it's rare for two days within a year to be identical. As the company you work for shifts and breaths its life into the world, your job shifts and changes as well, so you'll need to track new expenses, record new revenues, and generally meet any new reporting obligations that may arise due to new and shifting business ventures. However, meeting all of these requirements requires a highly trained and specialised individual, as the government holds high standards for all of their mandated business obligations and a failure to meet these standards can quickly become costly.

How Does A Corporate Accountant Actually Manage This?
Generally speaking, corporate accountants don't work alone, and instead prepare their internal records to be submitted to external sources, be they further accountants or directly to the relevant governmental bodies. As a result, a corporate accountant needs to be experienced with standard accounting practices, such as filing standards and accounting principles. Without these standards, it would become much harder to pass information and files between entities, and you may find your company's finances grinding to a halt at an inopportune moment.

What Is The Job Title Of Someone In This Position?
Despite being such a specialised field, there are actually numerous positions where someone would be expected to fulfil this work, depending on the size of your corporation. Common positions include Chief Financial Officers (CFOs), as well as financial controllers and analysts. With that said, though, it is also common to find these responsibilities falling to those in management, as tracking revenue and expenses is naturally easier if you're more directly involved with the team racking up those expenses and earning that revenue.

Can I Talk To Someone To Get Further Details?
If all of that sounded confusing, that's okay. The important details to remember are that corporate accountants are just the accountants internally employed by any corporation and that their job is to perform any financial task the corporation may require, from managing revenue through to filing tax forms.
